INTRODUCTION

Neurofeedback is a type of biofeedback technique that utilizes brainwave monitoring technology to help individuals with a variety of mental and physical health issues. Neurofeedback is a type of technique that uses electrical signals from the brain to help regulate mood, behavior, and physiological functions. Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, safe, and drug-free alternative to traditional treatments for a variety of ailments, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, insomnia, chronic pain, and more. Neurofeedback works by allowing the person to gain conscious control over their brainwave activity.

What is Neurofeedback?

There is an ability of our brain called “Neural plasticity.” Neural plasticity is the ability of the brain to change and reorganize itself throughout life. This is done through the formation of new neural pathways in response to experiences, learning, and injuries. Neurofeedback is used to promote neural plasticity by providing feedback and reinforcement to the brain in response to its own activity, which can be used to modify behaviors and increase cognitive performance.

Neural Plasticity

“Neuphony” has a real-time Neurofeedback system in the form of “Volume Modulation.” While you are performing meditation using the Neuphony mobile app, the volume of the selected module will alter up and down, representing either your Focus or Calm going up or down in real-time.

This gives the person real-time feedback to adjust and maintain their Focus-Calm levels. This modulation helps individuals understand how their attention span is, what distracts them, and what makes them anxious or uneasy. The app has easy-to-understand graphical representation of Focus/Calm levels along with PDR and mood tracking.

Neuphony Neurofeedback System

Neurofeedback uses a variety of protocols with different brainwaves. Theta, alpha/theta ratio, and beta procedures are the most often employed ones. The neurons' actions contain a wealth of information about other neurons’ activity. Electrical pulses are generated by neurons when they are active. The electrical activity of the brain, also referred to as EEG, can be captured by applying electrodes to the scalp.

Neurofeedback Protocols

Pyramidal neurons, a particular form of synchronous neuron, are responsible for producing EEG, and their electrical output is subsequently reflected in the parts of the skin below where the electrodes are positioned. The amplitudes and frequencies of various electrical activity patterns, referred to as brain waves, could be used to identify them.

Understanding Brain Wave Activity

The number of waves per second (Hz), which is used to measure frequency, indicates how quickly the waves oscillate. The microvolt (μV), which is used to measure amplitude, indicates the strength of the waves.

Research and Application

Much research has been done in the field of neurofeedback using different protocols. This makes it a versatile tool for brain training. The “volume modulation” is one of the easiest methods to implement and adapt, ensuring a short learning curve and instant results.
